What Field of Study Incorporates 3D Modeling, Computer Animation, Graphics, Design, Etc?

I am an artist and I really want into the artistic aspects of Game Development or work for an animation company. What college courses should i start and take?
I really want to design characters, create environments, vehicles, weapons, etc. and bring it to life. Any good advice, please?

The major is called Multimedia and the only real university that I am aware of that offers this as a real diploma is Arizona State. Many for-profits schools offer a shallow introduction to all the mechanisms that make interactive media. You could hit a homerun with your own game, selling it to the cell phone market. The vast majority of game companies are typically small and underfunded.
So, IIWY, a Bachelor Arts in Art from a major university, with a minor in CIS. So many 3D wannabes cannot even pick a 3 color pallete to work with.
It would seem that Opengl with C++ would be the natural place to start
