Panning in photography is the process of capturing movement on the frame. While a subject moves in a certain direction, your camera follows the direction she is going so she stays in the same position in your frame for the duration of the exposure.
If you apply this technique correctly, your subject should look still in your photograph while her background is blurry, streaked or skewed, in the opposite direction of her travel. The overall effect can be anything from sentimental or nostalgic to action-packed and dynamic! Check out the following great examples of this technique and be inspired.
